Job Description
As a Substation Engineer, you will be responsible for the design of Relay Protection and Control (P&C) projects and Substation Layout projects for electric utilities at voltages from 4kV up to 500kV. Every individual is responsible for producing a high quality work product while fostering a high level of client satisfaction. Responsibilities include development of protective relaying schemes, equipment selection, relay functional diagrams, 1-line/3-line diagrams, AC/DC schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, SCADA system and communications diagrams, general layouts, grounding plans, conduit plans, electrical elevations, vendor equipment drawing review, engineering calculations and reports. Various levels of experience desired with positions open from entry level through senior.
Entry Level (Job Req #2022SUB0201) Qualifications
- 0+ years experience
- Ability to work independently on challenging projects
- Knowledge of basic power engineering principles
- Proficient in MS Office suite, AutoCad and/or Microstation a plus
Mid Level (Job Req #2022SUB3702) Qualifications
- 3+ years experience
- Knowledge of P&C engineering schemes including feeder, breaker, bus, capacitor bank, transformer and/or transmission line protection
- Knowledge of substation layout designs including general layouts, grounding plans, conduit plans, and electrical elevations
- Experience performing quality reviews
- Experience developing cost estimates, scopes, technical specifications
- Experience providing construction support
- Experience developing relay settings and utilizing system modeling software is a plus
- Ability to mentor entry level engineers
- Proficient in MS Office suite, AutoCad and/or Microstation desired
- Candidate may have direct contact with clients, strong communication skills required
- Professional Engineering licensure desired for more experienced candidates
Senior Level (Job Req #2022PC8003) Qualifications
- 8+ years experience
- Advanced knowledge of P&C engineering schemes including feeder, breaker, bus, capacitor bank, transformer and transmission line protection
- Advanced knowledge of substation layout designs including general layouts, grounding plans, conduit plans, electrical elevations, grounding analysis, lightning protection analysis and bus calculations
- Experience leading multi-discipline project teams and performing quality reviews
- Experience developing engineering standards, cost estimates, scopes, technical specifications
- Experience providing outage sequencing and construction support
- Experience developing relay settings and utilizing system modeling software is a plus
- Ability to mentor experienced engineers
- Proficient in MS Office suite, AutoCad and/or Microstation desired
- Candidate may have significant client facing engagement and will be responsible to provide guidance and leadership to internal and external project teams
- Professional Engineering licensure strongly recommended
